Introduction and History
Department of Painting operates within the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Fine Arts, which was established on September 9, 1997, through a Council of Ministers Decision based on Article 30 of Law No. 2809 dated March 28, 1983. This decision was published in the Official Gazette numbered 23115 on September 19, 1997. Starting from the Fall Semester of 2012-2013, the department has been providing education within Faculty building on the Terzioğlu Campus.
The department, which operates within the Faculty of Fine Arts at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, is a full-time undergraduate program with eight semesters. It has a strong structure with an experienced staff that aims for its goals, advances towards these goals, employs a transparent and participatory management style, and includes all stakeholders in the process. The language of instruction is Turkish, while the compulsory foreign language course is English. The department has a quota of 30 students.
The goal of our department is to educate creative, contemporary, enlightened artists who can produce original works of art at a universal level, while also considering the material and spiritual needs of society to elevate aesthetic appreciation to universal standards. Additionally, the aim is to create interactive course programs and open activities with all artistic disciplines.
Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a bachelor's degree in "Fine Arts Painting." Students who successfully fulfill all the requirements of courses and practical training (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS credits for the bachelor's degree) according to the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Associate and Undergraduate Education, Training, and Examination Regulations (Official Gazette: September 21, 1993 / 21705) and have a GPA of 2.00 or higher are entitled to receive a diploma.
In addition to the Bachelor's Program in Painting, there are also Master's and Proficiency in Art Programs within the Painting Main Art Branch.
Mission
The mission of our department is to cultivate contemporary artists who possess a developed sense of culture, art, aesthetics, environment, and social awareness. These artists should create original works of art and knowledge at international standards, preserve cultural values passed down from the past to the present, and contribute to the dissemination of artistic and aesthetic appreciation to society. Additionally, our mission involves preparing the necessary infrastructure for this purpose; forming, supporting, and ensuring the sustainability of teams engaged in collaborative, creative, and internationally impactful endeavors in the field of art.
Vision
The vision of our department is to become a unit that houses qualified teaching staff and students, closely follows artistic developments, and contributes to Turkish and World Art with the artistic knowledge it produces based on the multi-layered culture it resides upon. This contribution will elevate our country beyond the level of contemporary civilization and carry it into the future.
